KYLE WATSON
As the head Brazilian jiu-jitsu instructor at the world-renowned Hughes Intensive Training (H.I.T.) Squad in Granite City, Illinois, Kyle Watson has always had a spotlight on him, whether he likes it or not. Training with world class fighters like top-notch striker “Ruthless” Robbie Lawler – a former EliteXC Middleweight Champion – and legendary wrestler Matt Hughes – a former UFC Welterweight Champion and future UFC Hall of Famer – has certainly helped round out the already-impressive grappling skills of Watson. Throw in one of the most respected trainers in the world in Marc Fiore, and Watson has the some of the best training a fighter could ask for.
Despite being from a town in Illinois with a population of 927, Watson hasn’t allowed growing up with a small-town mentality keep him from shooting to be a top MMA fighter. Already a Bodog Fight veteran, Watson (12-6-1 with 10 submissi0ns) has stepped in with the likes of King of the Cage veteran Tyler “TNT” Jackson, WEC lightweight Bart Palaszewski, and UFC lightweight Spencer Fisher. The grappling specialist can also claim victories over IFL veteran Kevin English and King of the Cage veteran Chris Higi, who he beat twice.
Things have certainly worked out well thus far for Watson, but he looks to take even bigger leaps towards a world title after signing with Shine: “I plan to win some fights, work my way up to number one contender, and then dispatch whoever Shine feels I should challenge for the lightweight belt.”
Watson may have been overlooked by some in the MMA world up until this point, but he has a plan to get noticed: “I am ready to come out full force and show the lightweight division and the world that I am a contender.”
